Spiral Pattern Lidded Ceramic Jar

This small lidded jar has a low, broad body that expands through the belly before narrowing distinctly toward the opening. The inward transition gives the compact form a fuller volume while allowing the lid to sit within a more clearly defined upper contour.

Yellow, blue, and brown underglaze motifs repeat across the top of the lid and around the exterior wall. Each mark develops through a loosely painted spiral, creating a circular rhythm that echoes both the rounded body and the change in diameter toward the opening.

The decoration is limited to the visible outer surfaces. The interior remains unpainted, separating the dense, rotating pattern from the quieter space inside the jar.

Studio Note

The repeated spirals do not form a mechanically aligned pattern. Differences in scale, spacing, curvature, and color allow the marks to circulate around the jar without establishing a fixed front. The narrowed opening interrupts this movement structurally, while the lid completes it from above.

Ceramic Characteristics

This work was individually formed, painted, glazed, and fired. Variations in contour, lid alignment, brush direction, spiral shape, spacing, line width, color density, and glaze coverage are natural characteristics of studio ceramics.

Measurements are approximate. Irregularities within the painted cycles and subtle differences between the lid and body form part of the finished work and are not considered manufacturing defects.

Care Information

Hand washing is recommended. Use a soft sponge and mild detergent. Avoid abrasive cleaners, direct flame, impact around the lid and rim, and sudden temperature changes.

For food use, discontinue use if the glazed interior becomes chipped, cracked, or otherwise damaged.
