Yellow Clay Underglaze Wind Bell Set

This wind bell set consists of individually handbuilt forms made from yellow clay. The bells share the same material and surface approach, but no single silhouette is repeated. Differences in width, height, contour, and volume give the group a more varied physical rhythm, including one form shaped like a knitted hat.

Underglaze decoration extends across the warmer clay body, allowing the natural color of the material to remain part of the finished surface. The yellow clay produces a denser visual character than the transparent-glazed porcelain version developed alongside it.

The difference continues through sound. Compared with the lighter tone of the porcelain group, these bells produce a fuller, more grounded resonance. Form, wall thickness, scale, and clay body all contribute to the individual voice of each piece.

Because the bells differ in scale and profile, their sound cannot be attributed to the clay body alone. The group records the combined effect of material, wall thickness, shape, suspension, and firing.

Hang indoors or in a sheltered outdoor area. Avoid strong wind, hard impact, and prolonged exposure to rain or freezing conditions. Handle the ceramic forms and suspension points carefully.
