This small porcelain cup has a compact, upright form designed for tea and other small servings. Its narrow diameter and low height keep the volume contained while bringing the surface close to the hand.
Brown, green, and beige flow glazes move vertically across the exterior. The three colors form separate lines in some areas and overlap in others, producing irregular changes in tone, width, and direction. Speckles interrupt the flowing bands and give the surface a denser, more granular character.
The glaze was developed as a deliberate contrast to the fine, smooth body of the white porcelain beneath it. Rather than emphasizing porcelain through a pale or refined surface, the application introduces visual roughness, uneven color, and visible glaze movement. The contrast allows the clay body and glaze to retain distinctly different material characters within the same small form.
Studio Note
The experiment treats porcelain as a ground for a surface that does not attempt to appear delicate. The smooth white body remains structurally precise, while the brown, green, and beige glazes introduce a rougher visual rhythm shaped by application, gravity, and firing.
Ceramic Characteristics
This work was individually formed, glazed, and fired. Variations in contour, glaze thickness, line width, speckle distribution, color overlap, and surface movement are natural characteristics of the process.
Measurements are approximate. Uneven glaze flow, changing color density, and visible differences between individual applications form part of the intended surface and are not considered manufacturing defects.
Care Information
Hand washing is recommended. Use a soft sponge and mild detergent. Avoid abrasive cleaners, direct flame, impact, and sudden temperature changes.
