Bow Handled Green Lidded Box

This small handbuilt box has a softened square form, a fitted lid, and a ceramic bow positioned as the handle. The contrast between the geometric container and the raised sculptural detail changes the silhouette without separating the lid from the form below.

The green glaze was deliberately applied in a relatively thin layer. Visible brush movement and differences in glaze thickness create shifts between lighter and deeper green across the surface. Rather than forming a uniform coating, the glaze preserves traces of its application.

Both the interior and exterior are glazed. The contained form can hold jewelry, tea bags, seasonings, or small portions of foods such as honey and butter.

Studio Note

Made during an early period of testing in 2025, this work examines how a small functional container can carry a more sculptural lid element. The bow handle later became part of the studio’s wider observation of attachments, raised details, and separate forms joined through use.

Ceramic Characteristics

Each work is individually formed, glazed, and fired. Variations in proportion, lid alignment, glaze thickness, brush direction, color depth, and surface texture are natural characteristics of studio ceramics.

Measurements are approximate. Minor irregularities and visible traces of the forming, glazing, and firing processes form part of the finished work and are not considered manufacturing defects.

Care Information

Hand washing is recommended. Use a soft sponge and mild detergent. Avoid abrasive cleaners, sudden temperature changes, direct flame, and impact around the lid and bow-shaped handle.
