Blue Pomegranate Straight Sided Bowl

This small porcelain bowl has straight vertical walls, maintaining an even diameter from the base to the rim. The form neither opens outward nor narrows inward, creating a contained profile with a continuous upright surface.

The decoration responds directly to this structure. Blue underglaze stripes follow the vertical direction of the walls, while 3 pomegranates occupies the center of the interior base. A single broad blue line runs around the exterior, reducing the outer composition to one continuous mark.

The bowl can be used as a small serving form for food, snacks, or side dishes. Its compact dimensions also allow it to function as a food or water bowl for a small pet.

Studio Note

The pomegranate was initially planned in red but was ultimately painted in blue. Removing its expected color shifts the image away from literal representation and allows it to operate as part of the bowl’s wider line composition.

Ceramic Characteristics

Each work is individually formed, painted, glazed, and fired. Variations in dimensions, contour, line width, brush direction, color density, motif placement, and glaze coverage are natural characteristics of studio ceramics.

Measurements are approximate. Minor irregularities and visible traces of forming, painting, glazing, and firing form part of the finished work and are not considered manufacturing defects.

Care Information

Hand washing is recommended. Use a soft sponge and mild detergent. When used for a pet, wash regularly and inspect the surface for chips or cracks. Discontinue food or water use if the glazed surface becomes damaged.
